Mariner’s Chapel was buzzing last Saturday. It was a hive of activity as representatives from the Eastern Baptist Association, Spurgeon’s Bible College, Colchester Baptist Church, the Rowhedge Anglican Church, Parsons Heath Baptist Church and members of Mariners Chapel gathered together. People chattering and rekindling old acquaintances; the worship team filling the air with lively music; children playing and Simon Heard dressed in all his finery, beaming from ear-to-ear.
This was the day of Simon’s ordination as a graduate from Spurgeon’s College and his induction as a Baptist minister at Mariner’s Chapel. After 3 years of study and gaining a 2.1 degree, at last the day had arrived.
Graeme Ross, the Regional minister from the Eastern Baptist Association gave a short sermon about Joshua and the crossing of the Jordan and a Health and Safety check running parallel with the story. It was laced with such humour and lots of laughter, but he definitely got his message across.
Simon, daughter Scout and Mum were all there to support him and various people gave testimonies and prayed for him.
A wonderful spread of food topped the celebration off. Everyone mingled, children giggled and some had tearful moments, but all in all, we made a joyful noise until the Lord.God bless Simon, his ministry and his family. Pray for his protection and that there will be great things in store for him as he serves our Lord.
